Valentine’s Day gradient nails

Wow, okay, it’s apparently been like two weeks since I posted anything.  I think I might be losing my mind, because I did not think it had been that long!  I even somehow missed the beginning of this month’s Challenge Your Nail Art, which I didn’t even realize until yesterday.  I’m sad about that, but I’m not going to try to play catch-up since it’s nearly over now.

Instead, I did a Valentine’s mani, even if I don’t particularly like the holiday.  Alison (over at the ALIQUID blog) posted a double dotted gradient a few days ago, and it was the inspiration for my nail art today.  I was originally going to do the same thing in different colors, but realized that I could do a dotted gradient heart to fit the Valentine’s theme more!  And then I just did a typical sponged gradient for my other nails, obviously.

I didn’t use too terribly many polishes for this either, just OPI You’re So Vain-illa, Kleancolor Pastel Pink, OPI Suzi Has a Swede Tooth, Essie Fiesta, Maybelline Color Show Bubblicious, and OPI Coca-Cola Red.

I am actually pretty dang happy with this!  I generally don’t wear reds and pinks, but I surprisingly like the colors here.  And I’m really glad that the heart turned out.  It sort of reminds me of the 8-bit hearts from Legend of Zelda, even if that wasn’t what I was going for.

Although…maybe I should do some Zelda nail art?  It’d be a nice return to nerdiness…

Football half-moon mani

Today is Super Bowl Sunday!  I don’t really care so much about the game itself since I don’t watch NFL, but I am looking forward to hanging out with friends and eating free food.  In fact, as soon as I finish this post, I am out the door.

To get in the mood for the party, I decided to do some football-themed nails.  But to avoid picking a team that I don’t care about, I kept the design nice and simple: half-moons painted like footballs.  I used OPI Ice-Bergers & Fries and FingerPaints Paper Mache for the footballs, and Paint Box Polish Acid Pops for the ‘field’.

This last shot was taken with flash, in an attempt to catch the blue/teal shimmer of Acid Pops.  It didn’t quite work, so I’ll probably show this polish off some other time.

As for the nail art overall…I really like it!  It was so simple, and looks so cute.  Acid Pops was really a great green for this too.  I’m glad that my first post in two weeks turned out so well!
