Well this prompt is definitely an improvement over the last one! I was inspired by my Appa nail from Day 21 to do some more Avatar nail art, and a flame prompt is perfect for Zuko! I love Zuko, he was one of my favorite characters in the series (right up there with Toph). So I was excited to try my hand at this.
So obviously things aren’t perfect, but the two nails I care about—oddly enough, the non-flame ones—turned out really well. I thought the minimalistic Zuko would look awful, but he actually looks pretty okay. The Fire Nation symbol is definitely my favorite though. It’s almost perfect. 😛
This is another one I wasn’t sure about. I’ve already done two fish themed manis this month, so I really didn’t want to do another. And no Little Mermaid or Finding Nemo! I like both movies, but I didn’t really have the time (or patience) to do justice to nail art based on them.
So I did bubbles. And a little bit of seaweed. I was done in five minutes and didn’t care what it looked like, which is rare for me. Even when I don’t like a prompt I still usually care about the result. But I just did not want to do this one. So here ya go:
Again, this is a simple, boring design that’s made better by a fun background. I recycled the ILNP Float On from the Day 22 mani and added a couple coats of Paint Box Polish Northern Lights over top. It was definitely a good decision! Northern Lights simultaneously darkened the blue and added more sparkle (in the form of blue microglitter). Gorgeous!
And after the massive high point of my travel themed mani comes this boringness for Day 22. My astrological sign is Capricorn, so I just did the symbol for it. I thought about painting a seagoat too, but just couldn’t get behind the idea.
So, yeah. It looks fine. Kind of hard to mess up such a simple design. It’s so boring though! The only good point about this mani is the blue I chose. Since I wasn’t doing much in the way of nail art, I wanted my background color to sort of match my very pretty birthstone, which is a blue topaz. I wavered between Too Fancy Lacquer Lake Como and ILNP Float On, but finally chose the latter. Here are some pictures sans the Capricorn symbol!
Isn’t it pretty? I’ve used it in nail art before, but this is my first time swatching it. These ultra holos are killing me. I almost hope that ILNP doesn’t come out with too many more, because I’m poor enough as it is!
Okay, now this one I’m excited about! Not that the last few prompts didn’t turn out well, but this one was a design I could really get behind. Coming off of the last prompt and the slightly nerdy spin I was able to give it, I decided that I could make this one nerdy too. So instead of my dream travel destinations or suitcases or planes…I did fandom methods of travel.
I wanted to try something different this time around, so avoided ones I’ve already done before. That meant no TARDIS, no Enterprise, and no Millenium Falcon. It took a bit of thinking, but I finally chose the Impala (Supernatural), Appa (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Epona (some of the Legend of Zelda games), and a broomstick (Harry Potter).
I am thrilled with how these turned out! The Impala and broomstick aren’t fantastic, but I think Appa and Epona turned out great! This makes me feel really good because I thought Appa would turn out especially horribly. And Epona…this isn’t the best horse I’ve ever drawn/painted, but it’s the best one I’ve ever painted on a fingernail! But, uh, I realized after the fact that I completely forgot to add her saddle. 😛 I don’t care though, because she looks fine without it.
When I saw the ‘jewel’ theme for Day 20, my mind immediately went to the precious gems tutorial on Chalkboard Nails. I remember that back when that nail art was first posted, I thought that they looked a lot like rupees from the Legend of Zelda games.
And that’s how I chose my jewel colors for this mani. For those of you who have never played any of the games (how?!), different colors mean different values. Green is worth 1, blue is 5, red is 20, and purple is 50. There are other less common ones too, but I chose these four for my nail art.
I was a little concerned about how the final effect would look with my nail shape, but it looks pretty good! Wow this was a pain though. So much mixing! It’s the same reason I hate doing ombre manis so much. It was worth it though. They’ve got their issues, but I do like how they turned out!
I knew the moment that I saw this prompt that I would be stamping. I have a stamping plate with a tube of lipstick and one with lips, so it was sort of a no-brainer. The only creative spin I put on this was by adding a range of different colors to the lips, since lipstick comes in so many shades nowadays.
I’m getting better at stamping, but there were still some problems when I was transferring the lips. I kind of like the variety of shapes that were made though. Lips come in all different shapes and sizes in real life, right? The lipstick itself looks awesome though, despite the simplicity. 🙂
So…hearts are kind of the default for a ‘love’ theme, right? Well I was inspired by this card to pay tribute to geek love.
I meant to do three 8 bit hearts, but halfway through the first I decided that it was waaay too much of a pain in the butt and so only did the one. I still only filled it half full though. So it can still be taken as ‘you can do better’, but I prefer to think of it as a representation of falling in love. The heart is filling up, but isn’t quite there yet. That’s sappy enough for the love theme, I think.
The overall mani is very boring, but the heart turned out pretty good. I’ve considered doing pixelated hearts in the past, but now that I’ve done it I probably never will again. The squares were really annoying.
