I don’t know how time keeps slipping by so fast, but it’s already been about a month since my last post! So much for keeping up with my posts, huh? But I am yet again trying to get back into the swing of things by going back to my nerdy nail art roots. This time, I’ve got Dragon Ball Z nails!
Yes, I watched anime as a kid/teen. And yes, I still do fairly often. Dragon Ball Z was my introduction into anime, and I fell in love with it the moment I first stumbled upon the Namek saga on Toonami as a kid. And even now as an adult, Gohan holds the position of my favorite character (followed by Piccolo in a VERY close second).
So when my sleep-deprived mind decided to do DBZ nails at 3am, Gohan was my first thought. Only…I was sleep deprived. So I didn’t put as much effort into things as I probably should have.
I honestly don’t know what I was thinking trying this. I’ve never been able to draw anime characters, so I don’t know why I thought painting a tiny Gohan on my fingernail was a good idea. Although I do have to say, he might have actually looked like Super Saiyan 2 Gohan if I had given him a bigger forehead. I also sort of lost patience painting the stars on the dragon balls too, but you get the picture. 😛
For all my complaints though, I do like how this turned out. It’s been a while since I freehanded something detailed, and I hope I do it again soon. Maybe I need a good challenge to motivate me…
And here’s Day 7! I had high hopes for this one, but unfortunately the day that these were supposed to be posted was the day that I was flying home for Christmas. So I was sitting at my desk at 3am just not really wanting to paint anything, but wanting to get the mani done before coming home.
So, my solution was to keep it simple. I slapped on Contrary Polish When in Rome (the first Contrary I’ve ever used!), and painted a single candy cane on an accent nail.
Not my favorite nail art ever, but it gets the job done! And it shows off When in Rome, which is apparently the first holo that Contrary Polish ever made and was the deciding factor in my choice to get the August A Box Indied. 🙂
And just because I love it so much…here’s a flash picture of When in Rome, showing the gorgeous pink-gold shimmer.
And that’s that! I ended up loving the background polish more than the nail art, but I guess that just happens sometimes. And can you blame me? When in Rome is so pretty!
And here’s my catch-up post for Day 2’s Christmas trees prompt! Just like when it came to this prompt last year, I really wanted to do a Charlie Brown Christmas tree or even nail art inspired by the tree my mom and I made out of Mt Dew cans one year, but I just didn’t feel like it. So I made ‘trees’ out of dots instead!
I used FingerPaints Millefio-Red as my background, then dotted with Celestial Cosmetics Veils & Mist, Colors by Llarowe Gemini Rising, Different Dimension Imperium Sine Fine, ILNP 1UP, and LynBDesigns The Credible Hulk.
And here’s one with flash. You know how sometimes when you take pictures of lights the image will blur and created a really cool (sometimes sparkly) effect? That’s sort of what the one on my index finger looks like in this photo, and I just really liked it. 😛
This was an easy and quick bit of nail art, but I was happy with how it turned out. The photos don’t look as good as the mani did in person, but it still looks nice and sparkly in the pictures, and that’s good enough for me!
Hi everybody! Despite my best intentions, it has been a pretty good while since I last posted anything. I’ve been very busy preparing for a review panel and marking papers, so busy that I missed the first few days of this year’s Challenge Your Nail Art 12 Days of Christmas. It was really fun last year and I’m sort of sad that I’m late posting for the first few days. Oh well, story of my life. I’m going to play catch-up though, and hopefully keep on top of the rest of the prompts!
Anyway, the prompt for Day 1 was Snow Day, so I combined a little snowball fight and snowman scene with some stamped snowflakes. That pretty holo blue in the background is ILNP Peri Me, and it looks especially great with those snowflakes.
I actually really like how this turned out. Not a bad start to this year’s challenge, even if I am three days late!
This one should have been a pretty straightforward one for me. I only have two types of cups in my kitchen—melamine red Solo cups and a plastic mason jar glass—so I thought for sure one of those would be the inspiration for this mani. But…I just so happened to be drinking a beer with a label that lent itself to nail art. So this fantastic chocolatey stout was the basis for my mani for the Day 29 prompt.
I love this mani! Especially that donut. I really wanted some Krispy Kreme donuts after painting it. Actually…the only thing that I can think of that I don’t like about this mani is the fact that I don’t own a proper magenta polish and so my color is a little off. But honestly, who cares?
I had so many ideas for this prompt—chibi Castiel, bats, dragons, Navi, Charizard, any other winged Pokemon, a penguin trying to fly—but I thought that I should keep it simple and quick since I’m already straying into August now. So I did a few Golden Snitches from Harry Potter.
I don’t really like this. The wings are hard to see and I forgot to do the designs on the balls themselves. I’m sad that I didn’t have the time to do one of my more interesting ideas, because this one is sort of plain and boring. But I think I’ll probably revisit some of those ideas eventually, after I’m done with the OMD3 challenge and once I’m no longer sick of doing nail art. 😛
I think pretty much everyone thought of peace signs for this prompt, right? I mean, what else are you gonna do? A dove? Well, I guess that’s an option, but I took the easier route and went with the peace sign. And of course I tried to make tie-dye nails to go along with it. I failed. But I compromised by blobbing on colors on thinning them out with acetone.
I think I would have liked the colorful nails better if I actually had enough neon polishes on hand, but unfortunately I only have a handful of bright polishes with me right now. I did buy a neon collection (Mod Lacquer’s Electrified collection) earlier this summer when so many brands were releasing them, but they were sent to my US address so I won’t have them until December. My peace sign is also very crooked, which was disappointing since it’s otherwise really good. Oh well.
