Happy belated New Years, everyone!
I clearly never finished posting the nail art I did for the 12 Days of Christmas challenge. So despite the fact that we’re nearly a week into the new year, I thought I would post some of those challenge manis and the one I wore for Christmas lunch at my grandparents’ house.
My ‘Christmas lights’ and ‘Glitter’ nails are pretty self-explanatory, I think. The indie star of the Christmas lights nails is Nvr Enuff Festivus, and the glitter nails feature ALIQUID Lacquer House of Troubles and Smitten Polish The First Lobster.
My ‘Snowmen’ nails might need a little more explanation. For anyone who has never seen the claymation Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer movie–or who just plain can’t tell who this is–I chose to paint the narrator snowman of the film, Sam. I wanted to paint his banjo and umbrella too, but I just didn’t have time. So instead I used Butter London British Racing Green as my background color to pay homage to his signature waistcoat.
For the ‘Trees’ prompt I chose to do a skitlette mani, using SquareHue Olympiad, Nvr Enuff Festivus, Colors by Llarowe Love, Actually, and a few mainstreams. My stamping on the ring finger wasn’t great but I really liked how this mani turned out, especially my two ornament nails.
Finally, the nails I wore to Christmas lunch. I did another tape Christmas tree, but chose to go the blue-and-silver direction instead of the red-and-green. So I used LynBDesigns Noel and Pahlish My Sister’s Shoes to make the tree and some dots (to act as abstract representations of snowflakes, of course 😛 ). I cannot even begin to describe how sparkly Noel was. It was absolutely gorgeous, and I was disappointed to see that my camera captured virtually none of it.
And that’s my roundup of Christmas/winter nails! There were some I loved and some I really didn’t like–my ‘Stars’ nails were such a failure that I deleted all photos of them–and I really wish that I could have had the time and motivation to complete this challenge. I kind of miss the week-long max of the old CYNA format. Hopefully we’ll get some shorter challenges in 2017 that I can actually finish! 😛
You know, I’m sure a lot of families bake and decorate Christmas cookies together, but it’s not something my family ever really did. When I saw the Christmas cookie prompt for Day 10 of the challenge, all I could really think of are those Pillsbury sugar cookies with the Christmas trees in the center. So that’s what I went with. Then I remembered that gingerbread men are sort of a standard for Christmas and added one of them as well.
This was actually much more difficult than I was anticipating, especially the gingerbread man. I don’t have my full range of polishes right now, and nothing here at my parents’ house was a good color for gingerbread. I think I spent more time mixing polishes for that brown color than I did on painting all of the cookies. But things turned out pretty well and I’m happy with the final result.
Oh, and I got to use my first ever NailNation 3000 polish! The background color is #captaincamo, which is described as a grassy green with gold flecks. It was darker than that on my nails, but was still beautiful. It dries to a suede finish, and is good to go in two coats. Honestly, it was probably good in one coat, but I did two anyway.
Isn’t that the perfect background for my Christmas cookie nail art? I think it was a great choice, and was a fantastic introduction to NailNation 3000 as a brand. I can’t wait to try out the others that I bought!
Presents and bows…kind of a standard thing during the holidays, right? And yet, I really wasn’t feeling this prompt. But I still tried to have fun with it, of course!
As with my Day 5 mani, I used all LynBDesigns polishes for this nail art. This time around it was Not Even a Mouse for the background color, and the presents were done with A Right Jolly Old Elf, New Fallen Snow, and Winnie. These are all new polishes that I was excited to try out. Two are LEs from the Black Friday sale, one is from the “‘Twas the Night” trio, and one is from the “Sanderson Sisters” Halloween collection. For anyone reading this that hasn’t yet discovered LynBDesigns, seriously try some polishes out. Even now that I’ve branched out significantly with my indie purchases, LynB is still probably my favorite brand.
Anyway, enough gushing over my polishes. What I decided to do was fairly basic. Just some presents on my nail tips, with my middle finger as a slightly different variation to act as a sort of accent.
It was when I was about to go paint a ribbon on my ‘accent’ that I realized I could have some 3D fun with this. So I went into my mom’s storage/craft/junk closet and grabbed some ribbon.
I had to get my mom to do the twirly effect with the ribbon because I can’t do it right (even if it should be the easiest thing in the world). It didn’t look quite like I envisioned, but it adds an interesting little element to the nail art. I found it fun anyway!
Well, it looks like I’m playing catch up again. I’ve had nail art for Days 5-7 done for a while now, but just haven’t had the time to upload them. But now I’m home for the holidays and will hopefully have time to get back on track and keep posting on time.
I kept things simple for the wrapping paper prompt, and just did stripes and dots. And bonus, I used all LynBDesigns polishes! Defender of the Downtrodden is the background color, and Unbroken Song and The Credible Hulk are the stripes and dots.
Nice and simple! I really like how this looks and am glad I didn’t try to get too intricate with it. Then again, when don’t I like dots? 😛
Little late with this one (local time anyway), but I haven’t really been around the house today to paint my nails. It also took a little while to figure out what to do, but I ended up being inspired by these ornament nails by Nail Nerd.
The ever lovely LynBDesigns Eloquent Dust is my background color. I seriously love this polish and wish I had another bottle of it. It’s perfect both as a base for nail art and on its own, with that subtle little shimmer. The ornaments were made with SquareHue Leblon, Joulupukin Pajakyla and Sampokeskus, and OPI My Signature is “DC” and OPI With a Nice Finnish.
And here’s one with flash, just to try and show off the shimmer of Eloquent Dust!
I wish I had gone with bigger dots, but I think this is a nice mani even with the smaller ornaments. Opposite of how my nail art normally turns out, this one actually looks even better in the photos than it does in real life.
This was really easy to do too, since it’s just dots. I might recreate this for my nails on Christmas Day, actually. With different polishes of course, since I’ll be going home in less than a week! 😀
And here’s my catch-up post for Day 2’s Christmas trees prompt! Just like when it came to this prompt last year, I really wanted to do a Charlie Brown Christmas tree or even nail art inspired by the tree my mom and I made out of Mt Dew cans one year, but I just didn’t feel like it. So I made ‘trees’ out of dots instead!
I used FingerPaints Millefio-Red as my background, then dotted with Celestial Cosmetics Veils & Mist, Colors by Llarowe Gemini Rising, Different Dimension Imperium Sine Fine, ILNP 1UP, and LynBDesigns The Credible Hulk.
And here’s one with flash. You know how sometimes when you take pictures of lights the image will blur and created a really cool (sometimes sparkly) effect? That’s sort of what the one on my index finger looks like in this photo, and I just really liked it. 😛
This was an easy and quick bit of nail art, but I was happy with how it turned out. The photos don’t look as good as the mani did in person, but it still looks nice and sparkly in the pictures, and that’s good enough for me!
So…OMD3’s Day 15 prompt is ‘Cat’. Yeah, I wasn’t excited about this one. I don’t like cats. I don’t hate them or anything, but I’m definitely a dog person. So I really struggled to find something that I actually wanted to do for this one. My favorite idea was the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro, but it would have been really hard. Instead I did Luna from Sailor Moon!
And just like with yesterday’s fish theme, I picked a base polish that fits the prompt too. For today, it was LynBDesigns Dinah, inspired by Dinah from Alice in Wonderland. This polish is much more blue than I was expecting from the swatches I looked at, but I love it nonetheless. And it worked as a nice background for Luna.
She turned out to be more difficult to paint than I thought she would be, but I got her done. Despite the somewhat messy details, she looks like she’s supposed to and I’m happy about that!
